About Me
My name is Amirah, and I am a DONA-trained birth doula based in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. I'd like to begin by saying congratulations! If you made it here because you or your loved one are expecting, I am thrilled you are considering doula care for your upcoming labor and delivery.
My Background
I hold a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from UIUC. After working several years in education, I began my career at a nonprofit in downtown Chicago. I spent the past six years community organizing while completing my Master's degree at UIC. My work and heart have always been centered around advocacy, particularly for marginalized communities. This love for justice and advocacy organically led me to doula care—especially after I received my own doula support during my pregnancy and delivery. I saw firsthand how invaluable it was, and made sure to use a doula again for my second birth as well. Eventually, the opportunity to provide doula care for others truly solidified my calling for this work.
My professional background has always been rooted in care, education, support, resilience, and spirituality—all the ingredients needed, in my opinion, to provide quality doula care. As a birth doula, my role is to support you physically through different labor positions and practices, to be emotionally present while you experience a range of feelings, and of course, to advocate for your needs and birth goals whether you're in a hospital or at home. While no doula can guarantee any specific outcomes, my goal is to have you feeling supported and empowered by the end of your delivery, even if plans change.
I believe birth is an absolute miracle and blessing, and I always feel closer to God every time I bear witness to birth. For that alone, I am so honored to even be considered for your birth journey, and I pray that you have a joyful and peaceful rest of your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period.
